My Fragrance Through The Years

Today I thought I’d share a quick look back at my fragrance choices over the years as I have got older and see how my tastes have developed.

The First Fragrances

c700x420

When I first started experimenting with fragrance, it was just with the typical body sprays. Remember Charlie and Impulse sprays? I loved picking these up in Wilkos when I went shopping. They were the kind of sprays that it was easy to spray too much of and the smell would get to the back of your throat.

The Move Into Perfume

My first experience of perfume was Calvin Klein Shock, and I also got hold of Hugo Boss Nuit. I felt so grown up receiving these as presents and my love for fragrance really started to develop.  Later on, I received a giftset of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. It was super exciting to have a body lotion matching the scent of my perfume, and wearing this made me feel so feminine which is one of the things I love about perfume. This scent pretty much sums up my taste in scents now, being fruity, floral and fresh.

The Present

I would say my taste in fragrance continued to mature, but you’d probably disagree with that when I say my go-to perfume is Cheryl’s Stormflower. Being a celebrity fragrance, it probably isn’t seen as the coolest most grown up scent to wear, but that’s  what happens when I’m a big fan haha! It’s just a stereotype as well, because all 4 of the Stormflower fragrances smell amazing, with the original and Noir probably being my favourites. So if you meet me, I’m probably wearing one of those 4. But I’m not limited just to Stormflower, as I also absolutely love Marc Jacobs. The bottles are always incredible and so are the scents. I currently own Daisy Dream after getting it in Duty Free with leftover holiday money a while back, and it’s so fresh and beautiful. I’d love to purchase more Marc Jacob scents.

So there’s my evolution of fragrance choices. It’s interesting looking back at how my taste has developed. I now don’t feel like me when I’m not wearing perfume, so I hate it when I’m in a rush to leave the house and forget to have a spray. I also love how long a bottle lasts, so even though perfumes can be expensive, this makes it so worth the money.

How have your tastes in fragrance developed? What are your favourite scents? Let me know in the comments below!

Thank you so much for reading. Lots of love

October Primark Haul

This post is a bit delayed because of university work, but last week I went on a much needed Primark shop to find some bits to add to my AW16 wardrobe. I normally end up with far too much when I go in that shop, but I managed to do pretty well this time and not go too crazy. Here’s what I purchased this time:

First up I got these jumpers. The pink ‘Do More Of What Makes You Happy’ jumper is very ‘me’ as my style is pretty girly and I love a good quote. It’s also got a high neck so will keep me warm in the cold weather! The one on the right is a navy jumper dress which will be very cute with some warm leggings.

The top on the left has a bit of sparkle which is always good for the party season and it’s super pretty. The one on the right is long-sleeved and has a longer white shirt attached which is longer than the main part of the top which is a cool touch.

A couple more tops- I bought a grey chequed shirt which is always a good staple item in my wardrobe. Also I got this grey long-sleeved top with holes cut out in the shoulders. I have a few tops in this style and I love it because it’s something a bit different and adds something to a plain top.

You always need to some essentials in Primark and PJs are something you always need. They have some really cute ones in there and are obviously such good prices. I decided on this set with a dog on which comes with spotty PJ bottoms. I also got some new boot-style slippers. I love having this style as winter approaches because my feet get so cold and these are so cosy.

Finally, I got some essentials- some trainer socks and this gorgeous scarf. I saw this scarf as soon as I walked into the shop and I just love the colours on it, plus it’s so big and I can’t wait to wrap up in it.

So there’s everything I bought! Let me know what your favourite items are.

Thank you as always for reading. Lots of love

My First Beauty Box-Glamour Summer Edit from Latest In Beauty

img_8563

Hi everyone,

I’d been looking into beauty boxes for a while. I’ve always loved make-up and beauty products but I’m getting even more obsessed recently, so the idea of having loads sent to me in the post to try was a very exciting idea. I was so tempted to try Glossybox because that element of surprise appealed to me, not knowing what products I would get delivered each month, and being able to try products which I wouldn’t usually buy. However, when I thought about it properly, I realised that I’d probably end up paying for a lot of products which I probably wouldn’t use. Also, I’d heard many stories of people cancelling their subscriptions and still being charged, which put me off the idea of a subscription. Therefore, I decided to have a search round for alternatives and came across Latest In Beauty (www.latestinbeauty.com). There is no subscription service so you can just purchase a box whenever you like. They offer a ‘Build Your Own’ box where you can select either 3, 6 or 9 products out of their selection, so you can ensure you are sent products which you will make good use of. They also offer boxed collections, and the Glamour Summer Edit box is the one which I purchased this time round.

img_8564

The products in this box are worth £104, but it can be purchased for just £20. It includes the products you’ll need during the summer and on holiday, and there is a good variety. Although I already knew what I was getting, it was still exciting to unwrap my first beauty box and have the products in my hands.

The first product included is the St Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mist. Personally, I’m not a user of fake tan and the only time I’ve ever had a tan that wasn’t natural waimg_8568s my spray tan I had done for prom. However, now I’ve received this, I definitely feel like I should give it a go. With it being a light tanning mist, I feel like it’s a good product to use for my first tanning experience so fingers crossed it will be a success when I give it a go!

The next product is the Ladival SPF 30 sun protection spray. This will be great to use on my holidays when I actually get some sun (there’s never much of a summer in the UK). It protects from UVA, UVB and infrared A rays, as well as being water resistant so it protects in the sun in many ways.

Also included was a Grounded Coffee Scrub. I’m so excited to smell this because it has a chocolate orange scent which sounds amazing. This will be so useful for me as my skin gets very dry so this img_8565will help to leave it smooth. It will be a good product to use when preparing my skin for the fake tan.

I’ve also received a WOW luxury face mask, which claims to minimise pores and hydrate skin, with the results lasting up to 7 days. This is something which will definitely be of use for me as my skin isn’t in a good condition so any products like this I’m always grateful for!

img_8569The Nuxe Prodigieux Shower Oil has a hint of gold shimmer to give your skin a slight bronzed glow, ideal for summer when you want a bit of colour on you but the weather isn’t going to give you a tan and you don’t want to bother with fake tan. It also smells beautiful with an almond, vanilla and orange scent.

Also pictured is Oribe Texturizing Spray, which I’ve heard good things about. It claims to create a tousled texture whilst absorbing oil and lifting the roots. This travel size spray is worth £19 on it’s own, so I am worried about liking it too much haha!

img_8566

This Aurelia Miracle Cleanser removes makeup and impurities to leave the skin feeling clean and smooth. It sounds like it shouldn’t be drying so hopefully will be perfect for my skin! It also comes with a muslin cloth which can be used buff away dead skin cells, so my skin should be left in a good condition from these products together.

img_8570

The final product is a Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour in the shade ‘HD Devotion’ which is a really pretty pink colour. I absolutely love matte lipsticks at the moment and the fact they have such good staying power, so this will probably be my most used and favourite product in the box.

So there’s all my products I received, and all for only £20. I think I’ll definitely be purchasing more beauty boxes from Latest In Beauty and I’m glad I stumbled across this company! I’m so happy with everything I’ve had delivered in this box and I can’t wait to try it all out. Have any of you purchased from this website before? Or tried any of these products?

Have a lovely weekend!

My 2nd Piercing

I’m not particularly into piercings but there was one more I’ve wanted for ages, and today I finally got my 2nd hole ear piercing. It was 9 years ago I originally had my ears pierced so I couldn’t remember the experience very well (apart from how I stood outside Claire’s for about an hour crying, unable to decide whether I wanted to go through with it). But it was a breeze and the worst part was just knowing exactly when it was going to happen! I opted for a small silver stud, which I love and I’m happy it’s finally done.

Do any of you have your second ear hole pierced?

The Problems of the Girl Who Loves Make-Up But Has No Clue…

make up bagI admit it- I’m a girly girl and I find it so exciting buying new make-up and trying it for the first time. I have a pretty large collection (my make-up bag on the left is for my most used stuff; I have plenty more lying around). I especially have developed an obsession with lipsticks recently and am starting to have a real variety of colours and shades. And when I get a MAC voucher that’s the first thing I head to. I have my daily make-up routine and I love the days where I actually have time to apply it all properly and take my time because I do enjoy putting make-up on, but there’s nothing worse than being in a rush and having to throw it all on before you go out the door. But as much as I love make-up, I’m nowhere near the level of some of the amazing beauty bloggers I see on here and their knowledge. I just know what I know and stick to what I know. I rarely watch tutorials or anything like that. I obviously read a lot of beauty blogs as I follow many, but I’m really not clued up on make-up at all.

For my birthday last month, one of the main things I wanted was a full set of make-up brushes. Mine were gmake up brushesetting old and I only had the basic set. I received this lovely set (Fraulein 38, right) and was so excited to try them all out. However, I was staring at half of the brushes thinking ‘which one am I supposed to use for what?’. I was obviously familiar with the basics and necessities that I’ve always used, but  I was faced with such a choice and my lack of knowledge was showing! I tried Googling in an attempt to get a definite list of what each brush was, but the only list I could find wasn’t in any particular order so I remained just as stumped. I was feeling in need of an expert friend to inform me! I’ve ended up just using my initiative and just using a brush that seems to do the job, whether it’s officially the correct one or not!

There’s all these techniques that I never even bother with. Like there’s a craze with contouring at the moment, yet I don’t go that technical with my make-up. I did a post a while back about my make-up routine (although it’s even changed since then): My Everyday Make-Up. It’s just the basics, I don’t have all the knowledge to do anything fancy haha! And although I like to take my time doing my make-up, it doesn’t take as long as it must do for many.

I’m also always seeing people’s make-up and wondering how they got it looking so nice. This isn’t exclusive to people like me I’m sure- I think we all get make-up envy! I seem to get it over eyeliner. I always imagine how good winged eyeliner will look on me, but the reality is that it’s near impossible to get it how it was in my head. Unless I have plenty of time, this means I usually opt to not bother with the wings, and just do my standard eyeliner. Then I see people’s looking amazing and wonder how they have that skill!

Do any of you relate? What problems do you have with make-up?

Tag: 40 Make-Up Questions

Hi bloggers,

Sorry I’m a bit rubbish with regular updates at the moment but all this university work is getting in the way which sucks. But I’m trying my best to blog when I’ve got the time time. I hope you all had a lovely Easter and didn’t eat too much chocolate!

I saw this tag on ‘beckinablog’ and you can find her great blog here: beckinablog I thought it looked a fun tag to do for today’s post so here we go…

1. How many times do you wash your face daily?

Usually just once at night unless my skin is particularly bad then I’ll often wash my face in the morning too

2. What skin type do you have?

Combination pretty much. I’d say it’s more dry but it’s also spot prone which is very frustrating! I try to sort my spots out and cover them up with make-up but these things make my skin even more dry and show up the dry patches so it seems I can’t win here

3. What is your current face wash?

Currently I’m using Simple moisturising facial wash

4. Do you exfoliate?

Yes I use the Simple smoothing facial scrub at least once a week, and if my skin is looking especially dry. With my dry skin it’s become an essential part of my skin care routine.

5. Which brand do you use?

I’m using Simple products for my face mostly at the moment, but I do often change depending on how my skin is and what I can find at the time.

6. What moisturizer do you use?

I use Garnier Moisture Match for dry to very dry skin every morning. Every other night I apply Clean & Clear dual action moisturiser which helps to prevent spots (the other nights I use a spot cream but I have to alternate the nights to prevent my skin getting dried out from this product)

7. Do you have freckles?

Yep on my nose but they only tend to come out in summer

8. Do you use eye cream?

I have been using a free tester of Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream but unfortunately this has pretty much run out now. I am looking for an eye cream to buy but I haven’t found one yet so if anyone has any recommendations then please comment them below

9. Do you or did you have acne prone skin?

Yes unfortunately! I’m one of these teenagers who feels as though my skin will never clear up but I’m hoping it will start to soon!

10. Did you ever had to use Pro-Activ?

I haven’t used it but I do use Duac

11. What foundation do you use?

Rimmel Lasting Finish full coverage foundation

12. What concealer do you use?
Rimmel Wake Me Up.

13. Do you know your undertone color?

Nooo I’m rubbish with things like this. I should probably find out

14. What do you think of fake eyelashes?

Personally I don’t ever wear them. I only have once and that was for my prom when the woman doing my make-up put them on for me, and even those were pretty natural looking. I’m happy just wearing mascara.

15. Do you know that you’re supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?

Yes I often lose track of how long I’ve been using mine for though woops

16. What brand of mascara do you use?

I tend to change my mascara often but at the moment I’m using Maybelline Volume Express

17. Sephora or Mac?

I’ve never used Sephora plus I love MAC, so definitely has to be MAC

18. Do you have a Mac Pro-card?

Nope I don’t

19. What makeup tools do you use in make-up application?

Just brushes for some parts of my make-up but I also prefer to apply foundation and concealer with my fingers as I feel like I have more control over it

20. Do you use a makeup base or primer for your eyes?

I usually apply my normal primer around my eyes but I don’t have a specific eye primer

21. Do you use a makeup primer?

Yes I use the Rimmel Lasting Finish primer. It definitely makes my make-up stay on for longer during a busy day.

22. What is your favorite eyeshadow color?

I always use nude eyeshadow colours, and I love a brown.

23. Do you use a pencil or a liquid eyeliner?

Always liquid now. When I was younger I always just used a pencil, but I’ve had plenty of practice with a liquid liner now. I only occasionally use a pencil to line my waterline.

24. How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?

Luckily not often at all, but I probably will now that I’ve said this!

25. What do you think of pigment eye shadows?

I don’t think I’ve ever used them so I can’t have an opinion on them

26. Do you use mineral makeup?

Nope not really.

27. What is your favorite lipstick?

Nothing can beat a MAC lipstick. I’m currently switching between Please Me and Midimauve which are both amazing colours.

28. How about lipgloss?

I used to always wear lipgloss but as I’ve got older I’ve moved to preferring lipstick definitely. I find lipgloss is often too sticky and my hair just gets into it on a windy day. I prefer the bold colours of lipstick now.

29. What is your favorite blush to use?

I don’t use blush

30. Do you buy makeup on ebay?

Nope make-up is one of those things that I never really buy online because I like to actually try it or at least look at it in the shop first

31. Do you like drugstore makeup?

Pretty much all my make-up is drugstore so yes haha! I don’t spend loads on make-up and the products I buy I’m usually happy with

32. Do you go to CCO (Cosmetic Company Outlets)?

I’ve never heard of these so I’m not sure we have them!

33. Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?

Yes I seem to make a mess most days so I always have make-up wipes handy! Something’s always uneven or smudges. It always seems to happen when I’m in a rush too which his very annoying!

34. Name a makeup crime you hate.

One thing I see recently is when people do a bad job of their eyebrows and they’re farrrrr too thick!

35. Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, blush, etc.) or neutral ones?

I like neutral for my eye make-up but bring in colour with my lip

36. What celebrity always wears great makeup?

I can’t think of anyone in particular right now but I’m generally always jealous of how good celebrities make-up look. I definitely need a make-up artist haha!

37. If you could leave the house using just one makeup item, what would you choose?

I can’t go out without foundation, I need some coverage! However I also feel naked without eyeliner on.

38. Could you leave the house without any makeup on?

Yes I have done at times but I always feel more comfortable if I at least have some foundation or coverage

39. In your opinion, what is the best makeup line?

I’ll have to say Rimmel as this is always my ‘go-to’ brand when I’m looking for new make-up

40. What do you think of make up?

I love it. On days where I’m not rushing to do it, I actually enjoy applying it and trying different looks. I always find buying and trying new products for the first time very exciting. And I love reading blogs on make-up.

I hope you enjoyed reading my answers in this post. I nominate anyone who hasn’t done this tag already that would like to!

The Make-Up Longevity Test

Carrying on from my previous post about my everyday make-up, today I thought I’d test the longevity, specifically of my base make-up (primer, foundation, concealer & powder). I’ve used all the same products today as in my previous post:
My Everyday Make-Up

I applied my make-up around 7am this morning and I’ve just taken it off with a wipe at 7:30pm, so it’s been on over 12 hours. Here is a picture of my wipe after removing it.

2015/03/img_4272.jpg

You can see that there isn’t a great deal of make-up seen on the wipe, however there is definitely some left which I’m fairly happy with after 12 hours. To add into the equation, today has been a busy day at university including several bus journeys and even a gym session. So taking this into account, the make-up has done a good job. I believe a lot of this longevity comes from the primer, which states it can prolong foundation wear for up to 8 hours, which I agree it has done. However, the foundation claims to last up to 25 hours. It wouldn’t have lasted that long today, and it definitely wouldn’t have lasted as long without wearing primer underneath. I always find myself reapplying it all if I’m heading out again later in the afternoon, to ensure I maintain the full coverage. I also always top up my powder throughout the day to maintain the base make-up longer and to minimise shine.

Overall, I’m fairly happy with the longevity but I definitely don’t agree with the 25 hour claim on the foundation! And I would still want to reapply powder throughout the day, and reapply everything for an evening out. For everyday make-up, I recommend the products I wear.

My Everyday Make-Up

I’m by no means an expert with make-up… But I love buying and applying it, and reading beauty blogs and tips. A lot of my followers on here are beauty bloggers so I thought today I would share my everyday make-up routine and the products I’m currently using.

SAM_3689

Firstly I use the Rimmel Lasting Finish primer. This primer is a cream texture so I always tend to go to put more on than I need, as you still don’t need much to cover your face. I then use the Rimmel Lasting Finish full coverage foundation. My skin can get quite dry but this foundation doesn’t show this up much when combined with a good moisturiser and the primer. It’s full coverage so good for covering up imperfections. My current concealer is Rimmel Wake Me Up, which helps your eyes look more awake when covering dark circles, but also gives good coverage on blemishes. I set my base with Rimmel Clear Complexion powder, which also helps to stop breakouts.

Starting on my eye make-up, I start with my MAC eyeshadow. I have my palette consisting of 4 different nude shades. Today, I blended Phloof and Tempting. I use liquid eyeliner (Rimmel Glam Eyes) on my upper and lower lash lines, creating a flick at the side joining both lines up to create a thicker flick. I then apply 2 coats of Maybelline Volume Express mascara on my upper and lower lashes. I use Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil to outline and fill in my brows, before using the brush to neaten them up.

SAM_3684

For my lips, I just use a MAC lipstick, with a layer of Vaseline over the top to keep my lips moisturised and give them some shine. Today, I wore Midimauve which is a deep pink and I absolutely love.

So there’s my current make-up routine. Yes I realise I use a lot of Rimmel products haha! They’re so affordable and such good quality for the price so it’s my go-to brand. Here’s the full everyday look:

The Eyebrow Craze

When did having perfect eyebrows become such an important thing? On social media, it’s so common for people to post pictures of themselves and for there to be a comment on how their eyebrows look. I’m always seeing the phrases ‘eyebrow game is strong’ and ‘eyebrow goals’. I’ve also seen more negative comments and people being told to sort their eyebrows out. This can be from overdoing the eyebrows, or not doing them enough. Some people can end up with ridiculously thick eyebrows from using too much eyebrow pencil. Is this the craze gone too far?

It’s crazy and sad how eyebrows has become another thing to become self conscious about. From what I can see on Twitter, people worry about getting their eyebrows looking the right way, and want compliments for how they’ve done them, just like wanting compliments for our figures and overall looks. I can imagine that it’s just another factor that young people are bullied for in schools. Bullying happens enough without adding more factors that people need to do ‘right’ according to society.

Personally, I’ve never bothered much with my eyebrows. Obviously I regularly pluck them and have them waxed to keep them tidy but that’s always been as far as I’ve gone, I’ve just kept them natural. However, with the recent ‘status’ coming from how your eyebrows look, a few days ago I decided to purchase my first eyebrow pencil. You could say I’m just conforming to society, which I probably am, but I thought I’d give it a go. I had no clue what to buy and what colour I would need. I ended up buying a couple of colours of Rimmel eyebrow pencils (£3.99), the hazel and the brown. I’m blonde but my eyebrow hair is darker so I thought I’d experiment to find what looks best. I’ve discovered that the brown is a better colour for me, as the hazel is too light. And I’m liking the result- it’s good to have my eyebrows looking a bit neater and more defined. I think I’m definitely going to carry on using the eyebrow pencil just for these reasons, but I definitely won’t be going overboard with it! A more natural look is more my thing!

A Few Newbies

Yesterday I posted this photo on my Instagram captioned ‘New Clothes, New Glasses’:IMG_3756It was a day for wearing all new things, after a spending spree online in the January sales. I’ve received packages from New Look, Forever 21 and Pretty Little Thing in the past few days so I thought I’d share a few of my new purchases with you. First of all, the clothes featured in the first picture. IMG_3769

This grey dress was bought from Pretty Little Thing for £4. I thought for that price, it would make a good pairing as a comfy long top over leggings. I have a few pairs of patterned leggings but not many tops to wear with them, so I thought this would be perfect. It also has cut out shouIMG_3771lders to give it a bit more shape and style. After wearing it yesterday, I agree it’s perfect for what I bought it for.

In the above picture, I paired the dress with a new pair of black and white chequered leggings. These were £8 from New Look. I struggle to get my heel through the leg hole but once they’re on, they’re really comfy and a great addition to my wardrobe. The fact they’re monochrome means that I can pair them with long tops in many different colours. They’re also quite thick so they’re nice and warm for the colder months of the year.

IMG_3767The next purchase is this pretty top from Forever 21. The beaded detail around the neck is beautiful and the floaty material makes it perfect for a night out or for dressing up in something a bit more special. You can’t see in the picture but the beaded pattern carries on down the back of the top down the straps. I bought this for £14, making it the most expensive of my bargain shop but this is still such a good price for such a pretty piece. I’m definitely looking forward to wearing this one at some point!

IMG_3768

Also from New Look is this purple floral boxy top, which cost £5. As it’s cropped, it goes perfectly with a pair of high-waisted skinny jeans. Because of the loose and ‘flowy’ fitting, I think this will also be really comfy to wear. I’m a bit of  sucker for floral patterns, especially when it comes to dresses. I think this is just part of my girly taste!

IMG_3770My final item of clothing to share with you is this ‘baseball tee’ from Forever 21. This cost £7.90 and is a great casual piece. The material is very thin and quite see-through because of this which I will be need to be careful about, but I do love it. The cropped sleeves are good for the coming months where the weather is between freezing and warm.

I do have other new purchases too but I thought I’d just show a selection. The other items include dresses (yes another floral one woops) and more tops. I rarely buy trousers online because I find it difficult to find ones that fit well, so I tend to go into the store so I can try before I buy. This was my first time ordering from Pretty Little thing and I was impressed with the service. I ordered from there last, but their package got delivered first. One of my items was missing but I messaged them on Twitter and was informed it was out of stock, and they efficiently sorted a refund for me.

What do you think of the items above? Have you taken advantage of the January sales yet?

Thank you for reading,
